Abstract(s)
A avaliação pré-operatória adequada dos pacientes odontológicos deve sempre incluir a
análise dos seus medicamentos. Vários estudos têm destacado o estado oral deficiente
dos pacientes tratados com fármacos antipsicóticos no longo prazo. Estes fármacos são
prescritos principalmente no campo psiquiátrico para o tratamento de pacientes que
sofrem de esquizofrenia. O Médico Dentista terá que enfrentar muitos problemas nos
pacientes tratados com esse tipo de fármacos, entre os quais se incluem hipossialia,
bruxismo, disfunções temporomandibulares e discinesias tardias. As etiologias são
numerosas, dominadas maioramente pelas propriedades antagônicas dopaminérgicas e
anticolinérgicas dos antipsicóticos.
Esta dissertação tem como objetivo principal efetuar uma revisão da literatura científica
existente sobre a ocorrência de complicações orais com o uso de antipsicóticos.
Deste modo, pode concluir-se que existem várias complicações orais associadas a
medicação com antipsicóticos que o Médico Dentista deve conhecer, para tomar
precauções e medidas especiais em pacientes que recebem este tratamento.
A revisão bibliográfica foi realizada através da biblioteca on-line da Universidade
Fernando Pessoa, e usando os seguintes motores de busca: Medline, Google Scholar,
PubMed, b-On, Scielo, e Science Direct.
Appropriate preoperative assessment of dental patients should always include an analysis of their medication. Numerous studies have highlighted the poor oral-dental health of patients on long-term antipsychotic drug treatments. These drugs are mainly prescribed in the psychiatric field for treating patients suffering from schizophrenia. A dental surgeon will have to face many problems in patients undergoing such treatment, such as hyposialia, bruxism, temporomandibular joint disorders and tardive dyskinesias. There are many possible etiologies, mainly stemming from the dopaminergic and anticholinergic antagonistic properties of antipsychotics. This dissertation aims to review the existing scientific literature on the occurrence of oral complications with the use of antipsychotics. The bibliographic review in question was carried out in several research sites, such as the online library of the Fernando Pessoa University, and the following search engines: Medline, Google Scholar, PubMed, b-On, Scielo, and Science Direct. Thus, it can be concluded that there are several oral complications associated with antipsychotic medications, and it is the job of the dental surgeon to know the risks and side effects of such medications in order to take precautions and special measures for patients being given antipsychotics.
