Abstract(s)
As
opções de tratamento incluem a abstenção de tratamento, o tratamento intercetivo, a
extração do molar incluso, a recolocação do molar na arcada seja por exposição cirúrgica
ou por tração cirúrgica-ortodôntica e o autotransplante. Todas as alternativas terapêuticas

The objective of this thesis is to consider a general and current overview of impacted second molar and treatment options. Impacted molar can be defined as a failure in eruption, resulting from several factors and general or local conditions, in which the canine remains inside the jaw beyond that period. It affects about 1% of the population. However, in most cases, it is asymptomatic, being the diagnosis an occasional find, clinical or radiographic. The early diagnosis can prevent future complications and shorten the treatment time, complexity and cost. Diagnosis is based on clinical history, clinical and radiological examinations. Due to the functional importance of the second molar, the treatment requires a cautious approach and multidisciplinary interaction of professionals from different areas. Treatment options include abstention from treatment, interceptive treatment, extraction of the impacted molar, replacement of the molar in the arch by surgical exposure or surgicalorthodontic traction and autograft. All therapeutic options have their indications, advantages and disadvantages, and it is the clinician’s responsibility to define the best, considering the case, and to determine if the patient is eligible. Literature search was conducted from using PubMed, ScienceDirect; scientific literature relevant to this review was included. The keywords used were « Impaction », « Mandibular Second Molar », « Molar Uprighting », « Impacted Teeth », « Orthodontic ».
