Introducción al teatro uruguayo contemporáneo

Abstract

El presente artículo traza las principales corrientes seguidas por el teatro uruguayo moderno, desde el extraordinario éxito del dramaturgo Florencio Sánchez en las primeras décadas del siglo XX a la renovación de la escena ocurrida en los últimos años. En su segunda parte destaco la incuestionable calidad de El huésped vacío (1977), obra de Ricardo Prieto integrada en la corriente del teatro del absurdo. This article delineates the main trends of the modern Uruguayan theatre, from the extraordinary success of Florencio Sánchez in the first decades of the twentieth century to the updating of the stage in the last years. In the second part I highlight the unquestionable quality of El huésped vacío (1977), a play by Ricardo Prieto belonging to the Theater of the Absurd.
