Em Portugal, foi no decorrer da década de 90 que se iniciou a investigação sobre esta temática. A violência que ocorre no seio das relações íntimas tem sido estudada, em Portugal, maioritariamente na população heterossexual, existindo uma discrepância entre o número de investigações nessa população e na população homossexual. Os dois artigos apresentados nesta dissertação pretendem analisar as crenças sobre a violência nas relações íntimas em indivíduos hétero e homossexuais. O primeiro artigo consiste num estudo de natureza teórica em que, através de uma revisão sistemática da literatura, foram selecionados três artigos, de um total de 153 artigos encontrados em quatro bases de dados eletrónicas (B-On, EBSCO, Pub-Med e Sage). Da análise de três artigos selecionados, resultaram quatro tópicos de resultados: Ideologia Tradicional, Igualdade de Direitos, Papel do Homem e da Mulher; Atribuição de justificações aos Comportamentos Violentos; Crenças legitimadoras da violência na população homossexual; Crenças sobre os Comportamentos Violentos. No segundo artigo apresentaram-se os resultados de um estudo de natureza qualitativa, em que foram entrevistadas onze pessoas (quatro indivíduos do sexo feminino e sete do sexo masculino), com orientação homossexual ou bissexual. Da análise de conteúdo efetuada através dos dados recolhidos nas entrevistas, resultaram cinco categorias principais: perceção da violência e as suas manifestações; violência nas relações de intimidade e as suas justificações; outing; resolução de conflitos na relação íntima; o apoio e a perspetiva da sociedade. Através dos resultados obtidos nos dois estudos, concluiu-se que as principais crenças demonstradas pelas amostras em estudo recaem na legitimação e banalização da pequena violência, no romantismo envolvido nos comportamentos violentos e na ideologia tradicional do papel do homem e da mulher.The study of intimate partner violence began in the 1970s with the movements of female emancipation. In Portugal, it was in the course of the 90's that research began on this subject. The violence that occurs within intimate relationships has been studied in Portugal, mainly in the heterosexual population, and there is a discrepancy between the number of investigations in this population and in the homosexual population. The two articles presented in this dissertation intend to analyze the beliefs about violence in intimate relationships in hetero and homosexual people. The first article consists of a theoretical study in which, through a systematic review of the literature, three articles were selected from a total of 153 articles found in four electronic databases (B-On, EBSCO, Pub-Med and Sage). From the analysis of three selected articles, four topics of results were produced: Traditional Ideology, Equal Rights, Role of Man and Woman; Attribution of justifications to Violent Behaviors; Beliefs legitimizing violence in the homosexual population; Beliefs about Violent Behaviors. The second article presented the results of a qualitative study, in which eleven people (four women and seven men) were interviewed, with homosexual or bisexual orientation. From the content analysis carried out through the data gathered in the interviews, five main categories resulted: perception of violence and its manifestations; violence in intimate relationships and their justifications; outing; conflict resolution in intimate relationship; the support and perspective of society.
