Considerando a técnica reabilitadora aplicada, as restaurações podem ser classificadas como diretas ou indiretas (parciais ou totais) implicando o recurso a diferentes materiais na sua elaboração. Pretende-se com este trabalho de revisão narrativa verificar se existem diferenças na longevidade das restaurações diretas e indiretas e, também, determinar as causas mais comuns de falha associadas a cada tipo restauração. Foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados PubMed/Medline. Concluiu-se existirem diferenças, embora não significativas, relativamente à longevidade clínica de ambos os métodos restauradores. No entanto, é importante ressaltar que os estudos apresentam diferenças no protocolo e, portanto, ocorrem variações nos resultados descritos.A dental restoration is a treatment performed by a Dentist to restore one or several teeth affected by caries lesions and dental fracture. Depending on the rehabilitation, restorations can be classified as direct and indirect (partial or complete), using different restorative materials. This study aims to verify whether or not there are discrepancies in the longevity of direct and indirect restorations and to verify as well the most common failing reasons for each type of restoration. A bibliographic search was conducted in PubMed/Medline database. There are differences, although not significant, regarding the clinical longevity of both restorative methods.
