Regarding the true intentions of the novel O Ano da Morte de Ricardo Reis, its author declared “my intention was to confront Ricardo Reis and its poetry with a time and a cultural reality that in fact has nothing to do with him.” Within this ground (although not fully relying on it), we intend, with this work, not only to verify the effectivity of this statement, but also: − To penetrate the intrincate intertextual material, neutralizer, but always latent in the novel’s dense weft, where fragments of the demiurge Portuguese poetry and his heteronymes dialogue with other poets that had crossed with him in the long and diversified text that constitutes his work; − To cross that intertext with the ideological speech that configures the writing of José Saramago, as a representative of a post-modern style and, simultaneously, an interventive one.pormaster thesis
