His perspective is applied beyond these initial parameters to the emergent globalized world in which we now live. Norbert Elias (1998; 2000) postula que, nas sociedades europeias, da Idade Média até meados do Século XX, o self se individualizou progressivamente à medida que estas sociedades se tornaram mais complexas.
