A região anterior da maxila é o local de maior predileção. A lesão geralmente está associada à coroa de um dente incluso, comumente o canino. Raramente, o AOT pode produzir material dentinóide e matriz de esmalte, por conseguinte, considera-se que este representa uma neoplasia mista odontogénica. É constituído por epitélio odontogénico em uma variedade de padrões histoarquitetónicos e pode ser dividido em três variantes consoante a localização da lesão e a associação a um dente impactado, nomeadamente, folicular, extrafolicular e periférico. Dada a importância das características particulares desta lesão, de forma a permitir um diagnóstico e tratamento corretos, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi realizar uma revisão na literatura sobre o AOT. A metodologia utilizada foi a seguinte: realizou-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica na base de dados Pubmed, Science Direct e no motor de busca Google Scholar selecionando-se, cuidadosamente, os artigos relevantes sobre tema abordado.The adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT) is an uncommon benign odontogenic tumor with a low recurrence rate that mainly affects female’s patients. The anterior region of the maxilla is the place of greatest predilection. The lesion is usually associated with the crown of an included tooth, commonly the canine. Rarely, the AOT can produce dentinoid material and enamel matrix, therefore, it is considered that represents a mixed odontogenic neoplasia. It consists of odontogenic epithelium in a variety of histoarchitectonic patterns and can be divided into three variants, depending on the location of the lesion and the association with an impacted tooth, namely, follicular, extrafollicular and peripheral. Given the importance of the particular characteristics of this lesion, in order to allow a correct diagnosis and treatment, the objective of the present work was to carry out a review in the literature on AOT.
