Uma cárie no esmalte, só pode ser parada na sua progressão pela intervenção de um médico dentista. Sem tratamento, a lesão progride e o dano pulpar torna-se irreversível. A abordagem da cárie profunda é importante e deve permitir a preservação da vitalidade pulpar sempre que possível, e deve respeitar certas regras: preservar os tecidos sãos e remineralizáveis, manter a saúde pulpar, e maximizar o sucesso da restauração. Durante o tratamento, evitar atingir a polpa na cárie profunda é um dos nossos objetivos. Assim, várias abordagens terapêuticas têm sido estudadas: a remoção total que elimina todo o tecido cariado, no entanto, este método é mais invasivo e a remoção parcial que comprova o seu valor ao deixar um fundo justapulpar de dentina afetada, melhorando o prognóstico pulpar vital. Para elaboração deste trabalho, foi realizada uma pesquisa bibliográfica nas bases de dados on-line: Pubmed/Medline e B-On. The approach to deep caries is important and should allow the preservation of pulp vitality as soon as possible, and should respect certain rules: preserve healthy and remineralizável tissues, maintain pulp health, and maximize the success of restoration. During treatment, avoiding reaching pulp in deep caries is one of our goals. Thus, several therapeutic approaches to deep caries have been studied. The total removal that eliminates all decayed tissue, but this method is more invasive and partial removal that proves its value by leaving an affected dentin juxtaposing background, improving the vital pulp prognosis. For this work, a bibliographic search was performed in the online databases: Pubmed/Medline and B-On.
