O potencial terapêutico baseia-se na libertação de fatores de crescimento plaquetários, todavia outras componentes como leucócitos e fibrina parecem ter importância no processo de cura. O objetivo deste trabalho foi o de analisar os protocolos que tentam incluir, cada vez mais, leucócitos e fibrina (L-PRP, L-PRF, A-PRF) para comparar a maior eficácia biológica e cirúrgica entre os preparados de primeira e segunda geração A análise comparativa foi focada no potencial antimicrobiano, na regeneração tecidular e na prática cirúrgica diária, tendo sido analisados estudos in vitro e in vivo. Resultados heterogéneos foram evidenciados no impacto produzido pelos leucócitos, por outro lado, parece esclarecido que a membrana de fibrina presente nos novos concentrados melhora as propriedades biológicas e facilita a aplicação clínica do biomaterial.
