Objetivo: Perceber a relação entre a periodontite e o parto prematuro; perceber os fatores e os mecanismos através dos quais pode existir associação. Materiais e métodos: Pesquisa bibliográfica na base de dados de PubMed e de Science Direct. A identificação e a exclusão dos resultados foram realizadas cumprindo os critérios de inclusão e exclusão previamente elaborados. Foi utilizada a estratégia “P.I.C.O.” e o fluxograma PRISMA. Resultados: Dos 71 estudos identificados, 17 foram incluídos. Conclusão: A grande maioria dos artigos aponta uma possível correlação entre a periodontite na gestação e o parto prematuro. Contudo, são necessários estudos mais detalhados para que possam ser comprovadas as hipóteses expostas.Over the last few years, several studies have been carried out in an attempt to investigate the possible existence of a correlation between the presence of periodontal disease and the occurrence of premature births.
