Diante dessas agenesias, o profissional tem duas opções : abrir espaços para reabilitação protética ou fechar espaços vinculados à ausência dos dentes. Muitos fatores são levados em consideração na decisão do tratamento: o custo, a duração do tratamento, a motivação do paciente e as modalidades clínicas a serem respeitadas. É imprescindível ter o conhecimento e conhecimentos adequados para detectar os sinais e as diferentes possibilidades de tratamento da agenesia do incisivo lateral superior. Esta revisão narrativa da literatura baseada numa análise da literatura científica abordando os diferentes tratamentos ortodônticos da agenesia do incisivo lateral superior incluiu 18 artigos que datam de 2000 a 2020. O trabalho tem como objectivo sistematizar o conhecimento essencial ao diagnóstico e à abordagem de tratamento a executar visando a melhor abordagem de cada caso clínico.The agenesis of the lateral incisor is the reason for frequent consultations that place the dentist in a complex problem due to the position of this tooth, which plays a fundamental role in the occlusal function and in the aesthetics of the smile. Faced with these ageneses, the professional has two options: either to open spaces for prosthetic rehabilitation or to close spaces linked to the absence of teeth. Many factors are taken into consideration when deciding on the treatment: cost, duration of treatment, patient motivation and the clinical modalities to be followed. It is essential to have the adequate knowledge and expertise to detect the signs and the different treatment possibilities of upper lateral incisor agenesis. This narrative literature review based on an analysis of the scientific literature addressing the different orthodontic treatments of upper lateral incisor agenesis included 18 articles dating from 2000 to 2020.
