Neste trabalho foi desenvolvido o tema “Qualidade de Vida dos Idosos do Centro de Dia da Cruz Vermelha Portuguesa Vila Nova de Gaia”, que se centrou no conhecimento que o idoso tem da sua qualidade de vida e do processo de envelhecimento gradativo que irá condicionar as suas actividades de vida diária, bem como a forma como se relaciona com os outros e com o mundo, em geral. Tendo como objectivos: conhecer a percepção dos idosos acerca do seu envelhecimento; conhecer as suas preocupações; e conhecer os seus projectos de vida. Os principais resultados foram que relativamente á percepção sobre o envelhecimento os idosos referem um envelhecimento positivo, aceitando-o, alguns com sentimentos de revolta e outros com dificuldades. As principais preocupações dos idosos estão relacionadas a nível da saúde, a nível financeiro e a nível afectivas. Quanto aos seus projectos de vida as conclusões que tiramos, estão relacionadas com a pertença, com a manutenção da saúde e com o convívio/lazer. The current image of an elderly person spending most of their time seated on a garden bench watching the time passing by will soon cease to exist. It is well recognised that over the past years the birth rate has been decreasing when compared with the previous years and consequently we observe a rise in the quality and duration of life. The primary healthcare sector is the most sought after and it can be seen at a global level the development of programmes for technological innovation as well as psychological reflection. Equally, it has also been studied the increased emotional sensibility of the elderly. This progress is reflected on the learning and formation of nurses which will then be passed to the elderly via an healthcare professional. In this report, the topic "Quality of life of the elderly at the elderly centre of the Portuguese Red Cross in Vila Nova de Gaia" was focused on the knowledge that the elderly have on their quality of life and in the progressive aging process which will affect their daily routine and also the way they interact with other people and with the world in general. The main objectives of this report were to acknowledge the perception of the elderly about the aging process, their main fears and understand their life projects. The main results indicate that the elderly accept with some optimism their aging process despite some anger feelings and difficulties. The main fears of the elderly are related with their health, economic and affective conditions. In relation to their life projects, it is possible to conclude that they are related with the sense of achievement, the maintenance of their health condition and with leisure activities.
