Abstract(s)
This undergraduate project focuses on the analysis of institutional intervention protocols related to the phenomenon of Human Trafficking (HT) in Portugal, with an emphasis on their practical implementation by professionals and multidisciplinary teams. The research begins by contextualizing HT as a serious violation of human rights, addressing its causes, forms of exploitation, and the national and international legal frameworks. The main objectives are to identify and assess existing protocols and to understand professionals’ perceptions regarding their implementation in practice. The study also aims to identify challenges and barriers that affect the effectiveness of interventions and explore opportunities to improve interinstitutional cooperation. The methodology includes a documentary and literature review, combined with a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews. Data collection will involve professionals from the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Judiciary Police (PJ), non-governmental organizations (NGOs), healthcare professionals, and the social sector, allowing for the comparison of different institutional perspectives and the identification of potential divergences or complementarities in their approaches to HT. The structure of the project is organized into three main chapters: the theoretical framework of HT, the analysis of institutional protocols, and a critical study of their practical application, focusing on difficulties, barriers, and the impact on both teams and victims. The findings indicate that, although the protocols are technically sound, their implementation faces challenges related to training gaps, institutional limitations, and coordination difficulties between entities. The study recommends strengthening professional training and improving cooperation mechanisms to enhance the effectiveness of the response to HT. This research contributes to a deeper understanding and the development of more effective professional practices, highlighting areas for future investigation with the primary aim of protecting the victims of this crime.
